How much AMP power is enough?

I have seen many different AMPs on the market with varying power configurations and to be honest I am not sure how much power would be enough to drive the below outdoor speakers. I know that the word enough is somewhat subjective so I'll say this. I don't want to blow the speakers (150w max) and I don't mind that my neighbors will hear the music every once in a while. Anyone have any suggestions on power my new AMP should have? The config is as follows:

From the reveiver preout to the new AMP. The new amp needs to drive 6 outdoor Boston voyager 6's (max 150w) that are distrubuted throughout the pool deck and back yard.

I give. How about frat party loud. What advice would you give? Do you think 70w X 6 speakers above would provide some muscle? Would 125w X 6 be to much. Just trying to get a bearing on what range power I need to look for without overdoing it and speanding a ton of $ for nothing. Thanks for any advice.

No, 125 x 6 would not be too much.

If youre looking for loud just buy a stack of pro amps and be done!

Get 2-3 Behringer A500s...or 5-6...

Hi Jamster. More people blow their speakers by underpowering them then over powering them. The closer you get to giving them the max wpc output the better they will sound & the more headroom you will have.

So if the max wpc of your speakers are 150wpc then give them anywhere from 125-150 wpc. You can probably pick up a good used amp. That way you get more bang for the buck.

Also know that you won't blow them up giving them more power. For example, my amp puts out 405wpc. My speakers max is 250. They play just fine, since my ears will give out long before my amp or speakers will!

If they have a high sensitive they won't need to much power.

The sensitivity of those outdoor speakers are 89 dB (a little on the low side). Since you mentioned that you didn't mind if your neighbors could hear them once in a while, go with 125 or even 150X6 as others have suggested. As long as you don't crank the amp up beyond its capability your speakers should be safe.

it,s good to have 25% more power then your speakers are rated for to aviod clipping,that is what blows tweaters.
