How long before there is an affordable 4k projector that is actually 4k UHD?

I have heard that the only projector that is actually 4k is a Sony that is $5,000? And then other projectors above that price range. In a couple years will this same technology be a lot cheaper for projectors? I really want a true 4k projector but cant afford $5,000.

If your looking FP, on the consumer side, it's always gonna be pricey for the latest HD formats. I'd rather have a great 1080p FP than a crappy 4k.
When I started to get serious about HT, $6k was about the minimum back in 1998, and went up to 30k. Always get the best quality you can afford in any display that is in a main viewing room. I refuse to change out my KURO plasmas.

Whats FP? Would that $5,000 sony be a great projector?

The question I wanted answered was in a couple years will these $5,000 projectors be a lot cheaper for the same technology that the $5,000 projector has. Technology always gets better so I am hoping for a cheaper projector.

A good PJ will outlast most other tech. I have a JVC RS1 that I paid 4 or 5 grand for back in 2007. Its 1080p but was famous for producing "film like" images. Since 2007 I've been through 2 screens, several speaker variations, a multitude of receivers and bluray players, but I've never once really considered upgrading the PJ. Well Im lying a bit. I considered it about a year ago but when everybody said I'd need to spend 5+ grand again to get results at least as good as Im used to I nixed that idea and stayed with it. I'll replace it if it dies.

I am planning on waiting for the 4k projector when redbox has 4k movies for every movie in the kiosks. I don't buy blu rays I rent them.

I still do netflix disks. Only buy when its something big, like I just bought the Matrix Trilogy because I want the atmos soundtrack. I dont even have a 4k tv anywhere in the house. Its not really mainstream enough to me and honestly 1080p looks fine to me.

Nope cable doesn't have 4k and to buy a 4k right movie is $25. I will wait for a 4k projector until theyre mainstream.

Do you think 4k discs will become more mainstream in the next 2 or 3 years?

Whats FP? You mean you have a 30k projector? That's awesome! Would that $5,000 sony be a great projector?
FP is front projection. No I dont have 30k unit. I had a runco that I purchased open box with about 3000 hours on it and 3 years old, loved it but I only paid 3k for it. This was back in HDTVs and displays were in their infancy. If I were to pick up one now, I'd look for a lightly used JVC RS from a couple of years ago, unless you can afford to buy new. (And IIRC they wouldn't qualify for full 4K till the newest gen)

I would imagine, but idk. If i was in need of something new id go 4k if it were a tv. A pj tho? Idk prices might have to come down some. Pjs by nature arent as sharp as a tv anyways and because u sit further back i wonder if 4k even offers much.

I have seen 65" 4k tvs from 15 feet away and can still tell they look better than just an HD tv. So I think with a projector at 15 feet you will notice a difference.

Wow 8 feet that sounds ridiculous to me. My eyes would be straining at that close.
