I thought this poll might be interesting , be sure to leave comments:)

How was having a home theater changed you outlook on life and made you satisfied assuming you didn't go broke and divorced because of it-well if you did feel free to chime in though.

Both music and movies

are now an EXPERIENCE. I sometimes just sit in my big leather powered recliner and listen to a CD and it just takes on much more depth than just having one play on a regular stereo. With the movie screen, watching movies at night is really something to look forward to, and its nothing like watching a movie on a little bitty TV (like a 60" or something). Its cool having friends and girlfriend over for movies too. On the weekend, my son loves to have his friends over to play X box games on the Big screen!

Doesn't approach NIRVANA yet, that would be if I won megabucks, didn't have to work, and could just relax and watch movies and listen to music whenever i wanted!

I don't get enough time with my system to achieve nirvana with it, but I definitely look forward to a bit of downtime, relaxing and listening to music. Is it a big improvement? No. Would I be happy without it? NO. ;)

So what's new?

In 1976 I bought a Pioneer TVX9500 TV audio tuner. I started using my stereo to listen to TV then. This was before VCR's, Stereo TV and before the term home theatre came into use. Back then a lot of people thought I was crazy. I may be but since then I have had a home theatre. :D

HT is nice to have, but it really has not changed my life that much. I would say that it is insignificant compared with other things, like making a good selection of a wife (most people seem to bungle the selection of their spouse, which leads to all sorts of difficulties). That was life changing, but I already had a stereo and a TV, so a home theatre did not add that much more. Of course, I am glad to have HT, and I do not want to give it up, but I could live without it and be happy. HT has not changed my outlook on life at all.

I use my stereo/HT everyday. I listen to music everyday. I would go a murderous rampage and kick small children without it.

A mans home is his castle, and every man deserves his own little fortress of solitude in his castle:D

I didnt vote because I didnt see anything that seemed to fit, but I couldnt imagine not having a HT.

I'm with Sheep (though I'd leave the children) - I can live without the HT as long as I have my music... be it iPod or whatever, as long as I have it. It hasn't changed my life, but I enjoy it.

none of the above. I'm the poster boy for inertia.

An object at rest tends to stay at rest...

It's just given me more of an excuse to sit on my fat, hairy butt and do nothing except stuff my face. At least with music I could move around the house and get things done.

For me, friday night 'IN' at the movies is a family tradition. I typically will watch 3 before the night is over......LOL

On weeknights, I'll usually either catch a movie, or watch 1-2 hours of TV to relax and unwind.

When I was younger, still living at home with my parents, I didn't really have a "real" HT. We had a vcr on a tv with a red LED display to show the channel, a pull knob to turn it on and some push buttons with numbers on it, and my parents thought that they had arrived. They would not let me replace it for them for the longest time. Not even when I found a free Sony Trinitron, twice the size! They made me give it back. Owell. They still have it, though they have finally bought another one to use in the main room. The old one stays downstairs now. They even have a DVD player now, just so they can watch the home movies of the grandkids I send to them.

In my room, I had an old hand-me-down quadrophonic receiver that an aged nieghbor had given me, with a tuner, and some rca inputs on the back for a quadrophonic turntable, a tape, and an auxiliary. I wish I could remember what brand and model it was. It was sure neat with it's red, green, and white lights that sometimes came on, and sometimes did not.

I had 4 smallish (1'X1') speakers that came with it with rca jacks on the end of the wires that I could plug into it that I placed around the room, acheiving pseudo-surround sound. Each speaker had it's own volume control slider. I thought it was such fun to wait until everyone had left the house, pop in Bon Jovi - Lay Your Hands on Me, and play the introduction as loud as I could until the windows shook! What a blast! It was not really a life changing experience, but it sure was a heckuva lotta fun.

Then I went to college and had to make do with a sony boombox for several years. It wasn't until earlier this year that my Wife suggested we get a stereo because she was sick of listening to her cd's throught the DVD player over the TV speakers! She wanted something that would last a long time, so I began to research, and I found this site during my search, and it helped me decide on my first setup. So that's when it started. Since then I have set out on my own Home Theater journey, learning what there is to know, and loving it! I am finding out so many new and fun things and am only limited by funds, and WAF. Oh yeah, and two rugrats. :D Love em!

It has gotten me to pull out some of my old cd's that I have'nt listened to in years just to see how they sound on my setup. I don't get a lot of time to just sit and relax listening to it, because of family obligations, but those few minutes that I do get, I look forward to because I think I am becoming an audioholic... hehe!

I listening to music to relax, tune out the world, and spend quality time with my wife. My job can get incredibly stressful and I often end up working long hours, but one song on my system and I'm as good as new.
So it affects my mood, I wouldn't say nirvana, but I would probably flip out and hurt people without it.

My journey into audio started when I was given a pair of EPI T/E 100's, I was content with them for years and then when they blew out, I went to purchase a replacement, then I realized my receiver needed to be upgraded, then i had the ability to have surrounds, then my cd/dvd player needed upgrading, then my tv needed upgrading, then my speakers needed upgrading...
And after a few thousand dollars I am still no where near cured of upgraditis.

I choose Nirvana because I didn't see, "Has become my latest addiction and can't get enough. Is there a help group available?"

I have found that to relieve stress and/or wind down at bedtime listening to music through headphones does the trick to me. The headphones allow me to close my eyes, lean back in my comfy chair and I am in my own little world. I use Senns HD 580s. I dont think Grados would work so well.

Nick.

No offense...

...but this is probably the most idiotic poll I've ever seen...

IMHO, if it takes laser-totin' mechanical lizards and a big-screen teevee to change your life, you really need to get one...
