port tube into a sub box when the box is 19.83 inches and the port to be used is 47.88 inches?

I hope someone can shed some light on this because I just ordered the mkIII 12" along with the 500s BASH amp. from parts express. When I look at their suggestion for a sub box..... http://www.partexpress.com/pdf/295-404vented.pdf. .......it says you'll have to angle the port. Do they mean adding 90 degree "elbows" and running it back and forth until you hit 47.88 inches?

This will be my first attempt at speaker building so any input is greatly appreciated.

You can use 2 ports or 3 ports. You can also put them on the top of the cabinet instead of on the front or side.

I wouldn't do elbows on the ports.

Thanks for the response bpape.

I just wonder why partsexpress wouldn't put that in the pdf. if thats all it takes. To me, a laymen, I need it spelled out.

You can elbow ports, just not like 7. Its very handy for keeping box size down.

Is there a spec for a slot ported box? That way its just part of the box design.

EDIT: It says "Port will need to be angled to fit in box" under the title.

Parts Express has a forum on their site, frequnted by lots of PE project builders. They'll have answers. PE staff also comment.

I do kind of wonder about the size of that port, though! Something ain't right.

You can do ports on the outside of the box.
