How do I use airplay from Marantz?

I just purchased a Marantz SR5007 receiver since my Integra began to short out.

I feel like a dummy asking about this, but I can't connect to this receiver for airplay from imac or iphone.

Do I need the ethernet network connected for airplay, or is it supposed to be completely wireless?

I have the Marantz remote app for my iphone, but it doesn't see the receiver either.

thank you.

Yes. Unless you have an atv or airport express hooked up you'll need an Ethernet connection. Kinda silly that, in this day and age the marketing rats haven't released full wireless functionality yet!

Thanks Mac!

I figured this might be the case. I do have an airport express that I used for my old receiver. But I can't figure out how to make the ethernet port available from my wireless network. I've tried two versions of airport utility with no luck. It's an older model and I can't get the dang thing to work!

I like the idea of networking for internet radio, just wish I could figure it out.

thanks again.

My pleasure, Not sure I understand what you're saying- can you stream with the AE to the Marantz ?
You can also get a wireless repeater and then run a short Ethernet cable to the Marantz if you don't want to deal with a long cable run to the router for under 100.00

Oh my.

Since you assured me it was possible to stream from the express to the receiver. I reset it all once again. And again, no luck.

Then I tried a different ethernet cable.....

Shaking my head, but all is well. Very happy with my choice of marantz, the sound is incredible so far with just the audyssey setup and a little bump of my sub.

Thank you again!!!

Being in the market for an upgrade/update for a pre pro or AVR, this one has baffled me too. My blu ray player (less than $100) is wireless and it can get to music, videos, photos, etc etc, off mine (pc with just music ripped to a file), my wife's (mac/itunes), and my daughter's (pc/itunes) computers as easy as anything else out there. Add in the music apps (e.g. Pandora, youtube, et al) and you're pretty set with your own music or a "station." Even my directv box can do most this. Yet, a $1K AVR want you to buy a wireless bridge that costs as much as a blu ray player?

Ugh.

An update, I unplugged the ethernet cable to reroute and clean up a few things. Now I'm back to no network connection.

Why Marantz, why?

If a wireless connection can live inside something as small as an iphone or Roku box, I think they could have fit one in this big black box....

My Denon 3312 is connected to my network via Ethernet. I set the Source On my Denon to Network (instead of BD, DVD, TV, etc).

On my iPad's Music, there is a drop screen on the upper right corner. Once tapped, it shows two options for music play: "iPad" and "Denon AVR-3312".

I tap the Denon. Then tap Play on my iPad. The music plays on my Denon/speakers.

You don't have to set source to network, can be anything if you have itune. Just tap that little triangular thing at the bottom of the screen it would set itself to network and play the music.

Yeah, that's what I kind of figured too, but I never tried since the Source on my Denon is usually Network anyway.

I don't have AirPlay on my AVP-A1, so I have to use the Media Server on Network. AirPlay on the 3312 is cool, though.

Marantz

I've got the SR6006, I plugged it in via ethernet, set my significant others Iphone on the network and it just happened automatically. It was surprisingly easy, and I don't mind having to hook the receiver up via a cable versus wireless.

It's buggy as all heck though. About half a dozen times it's frozen to the point where I have to cut the power manually and get it to restart. Frustrating.

I haven't had any issues with AirPlay + Denon 3312.

One more update:

I was still having trouble with airplay working correctly, when the SR5007 decided it needed to update it's firmware. I thought maybe it would solve all the issues I'd been having. Well, the update froze up and the receiver wouldn't work at all. Even after unplugging the ethernet cable and pulling the power for some time, as soon as the unit was turned back on, it would try to update again. So the fix for this was to reset the unit to factory defaults which reset the network board and allowed the update to finish. Since all my settings were gone, I ran the Audyssey program again and as of this very moment everything seems to be working flawlessly.....

I think you did the right thing, hopefully everything should work fine from now on, just don't mess things up again.:D By the way, my Marantz AV7005+Airplay (via FW upgrade) has been working trouble free from day one so yours should too.

Thanks, PENG.

So far, it is an amazing unit. I've just shown my kids (10 & 12) the internet radio feature. So now they are dancing around under a black light and searching through all the Christmas stations. Yeah, I made the right choice. :)
