how do I get speaker cable to stick to the ceiling?

Hi everyone,

Well, I've finally installed my HT: 6.1 surround sound, and oh BOY am I happy! With one minor exception, and I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

I've got the rear centre speaker mounted on my back wall, and I want to run the 14 guage speaker wire up the wall (it's a short distance), then along the ceiling, make a couple right angle turns on the ceiling, around a beam, then come back down on an outside wall. I've tried that white-coloured wide tape, and it all fell down overnight. I've tried the velcro strips, and the wire itself fell down within a few hours. The velcro strips stuck just fine to the ceiling, of course! (Grrr!)

My ceiling is the typical (?) white ceiling that has all those little white pebbly thingies all over it. The length my speaker wire would have to travel on the ceiling is about six feet. Any ideas what I should use to keep it up there?

thanks so much, and cheers,
supervij

Staples. Not the teeny ones you find in your office cubicle, but the big 'uns they use to attach household insulation to the studs. You can buy them insanely cheap at any hardware store.

I'd say white masking tape. Or whatever color your celing is.

6" lag bolts.

Or some of the double sided foam tape. That stuff sticks really well on a variety of surfaces and you can use such small pieces you may not even see it.

Hot glue . . . don't think so. Can't be good for the speaker wire methinks.

Staples . . . thought of that, but I'm mildly worried about damaging the speaker wire accidently.

White masking tape . . . tried it. The speaker wire came crashing to the floor within hours.

Lag bolts . . . ummm, no.

Double sided tape . . . tried it. It sticks to the ceiling no problem, but the speaker wire won't stick to it; it came crashing to the ground overnight.

My solution (well, hopefully I'll get the chance to try it out soon) involve RCA coaxial cable nail-in clamps. They look basically like small nails with a plastic hook clamped to it. You slip the cable (or in my case the wire) under the clamp and nail it to a hard surface (in my case the ceiling). Oh dear lord PLEASE let this work!

thanks for all the suggestions, and cheers,

Yes, that will work. It's exactly what I used for mine (I've run my surrounds up along the wall/ceiling joint also)--they've been there for 4 years with no problems.
