hello! i would like to connect my sub to some new equipment i just got. I am using an NAD 7250PE reciever to feed my Alesis power amp via the reciever's preout. I would like to add my sub to fill out the sound.

My sub has these connections:
LFE (Bypass internal crossover?)
Right and Left RCA (uses internal 60hz crossover?)
4 binding posts for speakers (uses internal 60hz crossover?)

I tried splitting the signal between the pre and amp. It sounds great connected to the LFE (only one channel) but not as good when connected through the L/R RCA inputs. i have small bookshelves and the extra range might be good (bypassing the 60hz crossover). I know this isnt the correct way to connect it.

I was thinking about using the recievers amp section to drive the sub via speaker cables. Or splitting the signal properly with both L/R channels and using the LFE in. Will using LFE without a crossover damage my amp/sub???

I dont listen to bass heavy music, but i enjoy hearing the full range of frequencies....

CHEERS!!!!

LFE is mono, so even if you use L&R it will be summed back to mono by the sub.

If it is a powered sub, which it sounds like it is, you cannot power it with an external amp. Hooking it up via speaker level, the sub will simply strip the signal out and does not use the power from your receiver/amp. If the receiver doesn't have a preout for the sub, use the L&R and adjust the x-over via the sub's x-over control.

ahh, i am beginning to understand.....

the sub does not have a cross over control. So 60hz is it....

am i correct in assuming the LFE bypasses the subs x-over?

i am only using one channel's output to connect to the LFE. (thats why i am only getting one channel)

will i lose signal quality if i split both channels between the pre and power amp?

will i damage my sub or amp if i connect a line level output to the sub's LFE?

my speakers taper off at 78hz and my sub crosses over at 60 so there are 18hz that i am not hearing when the sub is crossing over!!!!

sorry if these questions are stupid or redundant. i searched google and the forum and could not find an answer.

thanks!!!
