How do Dipole speakers sound?

Just curious how the dipoles like those offered by Axiom, AV123 work and sound. It seems like you'd get a lot of cancellation or loss of sweetspot with them. I'm sure they actually increase the sweespot, can anyone explain this?

Thanks!

Thanks Buckeyefan 1. Nice link. Do you have or has anyone had experience with the bipolars? After looking at the polk site, it seems this would be a great soultion to my room problems (see AV receivers forum, Where do I start? at http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9925 ). How well do they image? I am currently looking at Axiom's bipol/dipole surrounds.

To recap, I have a balcony over the rear of listening area and a missing "fourth" wall that leads to the kitchen and expand the effective size of my "HT" or HT-to-be. It seems the bipolars would hang nicely upside down behind my sofa.

all i remember was reading numerous rave reviews about the qs8's... no one had anything bad to say about them,,.. and also that dipoles are not recommended by the thx certification standards to be placed behind you like bipoles, but the qs8's sound awesome anyway. and thats how they recommend you set them up

Dipole speakers are very cool and as an added bonus make up for many layout issues - not that they don't work very well in ideal rooms as well. They should probabaly not be used for the surround back (7.1) speakers, but function very well for side surrounds or as rear surrounds when side surrounds are not possible (assuming a 5.1 configuration).

Let's put it this way - I am choosing to place dipoles in Reference System 2 as the side surrounds instead of monopole speakers.

I agree with Clint. My Bi-poles have gone a long way in helping me with my "odd" room layout. I like them with movies and they are OK with music as well. At least in my opinion they are. This technology is a great advance. :)
