From this site, believe it or not. It's interesting to see what "they" think across the seas. Very good site with some good advice.

I didn't care for the US forum. Too many wacky colors. I feel like I'm on acid on that site. Plus the advertising is a little too much "in your face." Opinions are all over the place.

I was searching for something in google, I don't remember what. Got here liked it came back. Although I disagree with the strict objectivists. Disagreement and discussion make this hobby fun.

I googled VSX-D814+Review, and after checking out all the online stores, I found this forum's thread, and I quickly got addicted to being here! Very good site, and very good members! Everyone is very helpful, and I like that!

I followed a link to the Jim Thiel interview from another forum... then discovered the huge technical library on the main website. The forums was only a natural progression from there :) Really like it here, one can learn a lot!

I did a search for "home theater" because I knew nothing on the subject at the time and wanted to learn.

Just curious, but when did "googled" become a verb? ;)

when I was researching speakers and general HT topics, I tried a tons of different searches, hit a bunch of different places, forums, etc. I really liked the streamdown look to this forum. It is not nearly as "busy" as AVS with their colors, ads, wide topics. I read both forums, but I consider here my first "home". Not to mention AVS seems to of gotten a bit too big for their servers, and I sometimes see that pages aren't able to display because there is too much network activity. a big negative in my book.

I think I hit it when I found out about the Yamaha 2500 and I wanted to find a decent photo of the back panel. Google came up with you guys high on the list - as they always do. It makes it tough now when I'm searching for other reviews/opinions, as there are always 5 or 6 hits that bring me right back to Audioholics.

Now I just reference people here all the time when they are trying to get some audio advice to go along with their displays.

Does word of mouth apply...

...if I heard about the place via markw when we were corresponding @AR?...I mean it certainly wasn't an advert at the "other" site itself, so I'd guess it does...

I've been "into" audio for nearly forty years and I'm not really a HT buff...in fact I blame it for the demise(more like near extinction) of reasonably priced two-channel gear, but since I use all the sites I visit as tools to further my knowledge base, I find the Q&A forums full of opportunities to learn. Most questions(and MANY answers) spur me on to visit mfr. sites for info on gear I normally wouldn't have much of an interest in. As a result, I've become fairly conversant in the subject.

I also prefer(and appreciate) the more objective approach taken.
