Also are banana plugs a must? If so what do you guys recommend

Also wondering if I should get harmony 900 /one vs urc50
Thanks for all your input

Welcome, I'm not crazy about the sub, but it should all sound good.. I would have thrown the extra $300 with the cost of the sub and got something different...
Congrats on the upgrade...

Do you really want to know?
OK, well since you asked - I am not crazy about/do not prefer,
the speakers or the sub. > However, it will be better than the
TV speakers.

I think you did alright considering the sub was 60 bucks. I say get it all hooked up and enjoy it for a while. Banana plugs are not a requirement. For a remote I have a URC MX-350.

I say hang onto the $300 for deals and upgrades that are sure to follow ... and save more. Now that your in and now that you're here ... you are going to need it. :D

That depends on your priorities.

Remotes are nice but that $300 could go a long way towards getting a better sub, not that velodyne sucks, which directly affects your sound.

Welcome to the forum!

I think that you should let us know how you did after you get it all hooked up. :D It's a lot more important that you like it versus how things look to us on paper. As mentioned, it should be a big upgrade from a soundbar. :)

Btw, you bought a TV and blu-ray player - so you did more than just upgrade your sound. What TV did you have before?

I don't think banana plugs are essential, but when I got my 14 gauge wire they made the setup easier and 'cleaner'.

If you have a MicroCenter (microcenter.com) in your area, I picked up the banana plugs for $0.97 a piece -- they look and work just like the ones on monoprice. I'm really glad I got them, but I don't know if I would've ordered them specially unless they came at the same time as everything else.

Enjoy your new setup -- I bet you'll enjoy it a lot as an upgrade to your current setup!!

There is no guarantee about the amp - amps are the first thing
to go with subwoofers.

It's a fair deal. I have a couple of those subs. They're kind of boomy around 50-60Hz so don't cram it right into a corner to keep from making it any more boomy. I've applied some EQ'ing to mine to lessen the boom because I had no choice but to jam 'em into corners. Don't try to lessen the boom with bass/treble controls because it's unlikely to affect the frequency of the boominess.

I think you should have stayed with the $60 Velo and hung onto the cash until you could afford better. Now the cash is gone and you still don't have the sub you want. 160 bucks isn't the end of the world and it's money well spent if it teaches you this lesson.

Still, congrats on that sub. Like I said, I have two. When I just had one I figured that getting a second for cheap was going to be the least expensive improvement I could get in terms of evened out room response ... but now ~ $450 is gone and I still don't have the subs I want.

I cant believe my sub arrived a day early. Box looked like it was in good shape. Open it to find velodyn vx11 top left back corner by the connections is smashed pretty nicely. Pretty mad!!! To say the least. First time buying ht equipment but I guess that is life. .

You will find out one way or the other - if it shuts down, that
can be a strong hint.
