How can I research these Missions?

That is a great deal. I have owned several sets of Missons and they have the classic "British" sound. I would go ahead if you like them....

Those look like the model that came with a lifestyle system, can't remember whose, Denon, I think, circa mid 90's, and one of the more pricey iterations of the breed...These were reasonalbly good speakers for such a system, but they are not to be confused with the Missions sold at high end stereo shops.

I bought a very similar, could be identical, pair for ~$30 at a thrift store, and they still see use in a bedroom system.

They actually image very well for cheapies, quite spacious. They manage to do the mini-monitor "disappearing act", which is quite nice with such an inexpensive speaker. They are reasonably accurate, enjoyable speakers to listen to, at least within their limits. Treble is smooth, seems fairly extended but on the soft side; mids are very pleasantly fat; bass ok to a point, which is about ~110 hz. They're small, so output is limited. The system they originally came with was very modestly powered, and the small woofers in ported cabinets are only capable of so much travel before they reach their mechanical limits. Don't expect anything more than modest volumes. You can cork the ports to provide for safer loud listening, at the expense of bass response. With ports open, these speakers are good to the 110hz range, plugged only down to 150 or so.

One day, when I had too much time to kill, I hooked these up to a high passed signal and with proper amplification... and they sounded remarkably good, particularly the expansive, deep image they threw. Presently, they are powered by an old Yamaha 50wRMS receiver, which is probably more than they warrant, but it is a pleasant sounding setup.

Thank you for your input. I will be using these for the surrounds in my 5.1 system. From my sig you can see I have the Mordaunt Shorts for my mains, and I am very happy with them (especially for the price I paid). I'm looking for good, used (ebay) surrounds to replace the junkie ones I have now. My ebay considerations in addition to the one mentioned are:
MISSION Bookshelf Stereo Speakers 8VE TO4752 (similar to the ones mentioned before), Polk RT35i, Mordaunt Short 302 and 402, and these polks: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=110333655111&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=001

Now, without being able to listen to them what are your first thoughts on any of these? Since I like the MS I'm thinking of sticking with them or the Missions for that "british" sound.

Thanks!

It's really impossible for me to say for sure how the Missions compare to your other choices. Given that, I suspect that they would sound better than the Polk item linked to; the tweet in the missions is very smooth sounding, while those mylar tweets in the base Polks are nothing special. If the Polks or any of the others have larger drivers or are sealed, however, they would probably play louder than the Missions.

I can say that the Missions are very smooth and benign sounding, and thus would probably blend well with many speakers, but they still suffer from limited absolute output/volume. I have pressed the Missions into service for ambient fill (think Hafler Dynaquad here...yeah, it's silly but it still works!) and they worked fine. If used in a dedicated 5.1 setup where you want at least comparable capability as the fronts, the Missions would probably leave you wanting.
