It is clearly an homage to fun goofy, over the top cop movies everywhere. They talked about a few of the movies and then there were scenes basically "recreated" from each of them. I really enjoyed it. :D

How would you compare it to Shaun of the Dead?

I saw Shawn of the Dead a couple times and was primed for Hot Fuzz. Not only is it an homage to cop movies but if you saw old British horror movies, there's that too and the old spaghetti westerns like The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Loved it.

Yes, there is a little Shaun of the Dead in there unexpectedly, and just as well done. The humor is in the same vein as SotD, as expected, and just as funny. Probably not for everyone, but if you liked SotD, you will like this one :)

I must be the only person on the planet who thought this was the dumbest movie ever.
I thought it was a pretty damn big dud myself.

The first 45 minutes, mind you, were great. Exactly what I had hoped for in terms of the comedy and the balance to action.

After that it got too serious and the humor dribbled away until it felt more like a bad horror movie trying to be funny.

I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead, so I don't know, but after seeing Hot Fuzz, I'm definitely going to. Hot Fuzz was a better action/buddy-cop film than the vast majority of films it was making fun of, and laugh-out-loud funny, too.

I think you have to like British humor. If you're not into things like The Office, (British version), Monty Python, or Mr. Bean, you probably won't like it.

I dig British humor. But it is a bit drier than American comedy.

I can't count how many people have made this very bogus statement. I love British humor, including those you mentioned. I just think Shaun of the Dead is a poor exemplar of British humor.

There's dry, and then there's lacking.

Basically they are making fun of the movies they like. For me, it works. I don't expect something beyond stupid humor and I find their stuff to be quite funny. I've always loved British humor too though. Yes, the movie did get a little too serious at times for a "comedy" but Shawn of the Dead did as well, sort of split between gorefest and comedy also. I wouldn't call them the best movies ever made, but they are at the very least, entertaining for 2hrs (to me anyway). I also have to now see their NEW movie "Run, Fat Boy, Run" LMAO!

Hmm.. To each his own I guess. I thought it was great. I lauged pretty hard quite a few times. I can't think of another comedy in recent years that made me laugh that hard.

I'm with ya!! I laughed like crazy watching this movie:)

After having seen 'Sean of the Dead' and knowing the same people were involved in the making of this movie, I had some pretty high expectations.....and they did not disappoint.

This kind of humor isnt for everyone. I just happen to be one of those people:)

I thought this movie was funny throughout, plenty of LOL material. I like the gunfight at the end.
