I was trying to find a recipe for a Rhode Island hotdog after watching some guy make them on t.v because they made me really hungry. Trying to find the recipe I came across this wikipedia site of hotdog variations from all around the world. I love how each State in the United States has their own unique way of serving a hotdog. I just might have to try all of them because they sound pretty tasty:D.

If you make these celery salt and the sport peppers are the secret. I recommend pairing with a great IPA like Dogfish Head 60 minute.

Also, the Wiki calls for a cucumber, it seems. Pickles are the way to go...

Yeah you are correct, the guy on t.v stressed that finishing them with celery salt is the key. I would have never thought of using celery salt in this way.

It really is brilliant. I didn't know the salt was on there until my first bite, but it was an epiphany, with a hot dog!!!

I am very aware. If you are really worried get Hebrew National hot dogs. They are made to be kosher so they actually use quality meat...

You can get quality hotdogs these days but even the lower cost ones do not bother me espeically if you are putting all these delicious toppings on them. :). Sometimes I like to escape the pretentiousness of food, its nice to go back to something as basic as a hotdog and make them into something special.

If you ever see how the sausage is made, or put another way, what goes into it :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Still tastes good as long as you don't think about what's in there

We overnighted a box of Yoccos (from Allentown, PA) to a buddy of mine's parents several years back. It was mostly about memories than taste.

It was cool to see Yocco's included in the list for the Lehigh Valley.

I've had hotdogs all across the country, NY, Oregon, Chicago, you name it. You have never had a hot dog until you have one in Colombia. Its about 2-3 times bigger than a Nathans Hot Dog, and they slice it in half and put it on top of what must be a dozen or so other things stuffed in the bun. It must be 2000 calories but I'd eat one every day if I lived there!

If you buy Kosher beef franks, you are guaranteed to have no filler and no nasty parts... I strictly buy kosher franks when I make my dogs...Kosher blessing is so stringent that they even inspect the knives to make sure they are perfectly sharp, with no niks in the blade to insure no animal suffered in the slaughter... Don't ask... I dated a couple of jewish girls.. :D

My recipe is to take these 1" diameter franks and with a knife make stripes in the skin from top to bottom all the way around, just penetrating the outer layer, and then either pan fry them in butter or grill them until they are crispy and crunchy.

I usually top them with onions and Serrano peppers, which is my favorite pepper and ketchup... Thats my variation... :)

They still slaughter by hand? I figured they would just be shoving them into a big electric saw. For kosher I pictured a shelf sharpening blade and a rabbi in a bubble suit absolutely soaked in blood blessing all the meat.

From what I know, they take a horse....
Take off the shoes, cut off the hair....

and then put the whole horse into the mill....
