I bought a Toshiba 27" CRT in 2002 or so for use in the cellar office/gym. IT was used as a display for a VHS/DVD, mostly for the wife's yoga and such so I never really concerned myself with the sound. She certainly didn't so I never "married" the video to the audio system in the same rack.
Recently, I added a spare Blu-Ray player (my cursed Panny BD-85) to the sysem and, for Pandora, got the bright idea to take the audio from the audio outs on the Toshiba so I could availal myself of the remote volume control on the TV.
Well, It sounded horrible. I thought the Panny had developed another problem. It sounded gruff. Not just Pandora, but also any movies played tkrough it. Great, another problem.
I got the bright idea to run the sould directly from the Blu-Ray, and the CD player, to an external RS audio selector switch I had laying around. while I was at it, I stuck an 3.5 mm to RCA interconnect on th third port on the selector. Now that one "AUX" input could handle three inputs.
Thank heavens, the Panny sounded wonderful when connected in this fashion, as did everything else fed into the "AUX" input.
I really can't describe how totally horrendous the sound coming from that TV was. I'm just surprised I never tried it before.
