Have been lurking over at AVS and after time found out about this site. Looking to create a HT...room size 17 x 12 x 8 with one door enter/exit. Have my eyes set on the Pio 5080 or maybe the 6010. After looking at what a reciever/sub/speakers will probably cost will probably end up with the 5080. Had planned on getting a Klipsch sub (have a Klipsch 5.1 on one of my puters and it seems ok) then....did a little searching and think I would be better of with a svs pb 12 or the HSU vtf3 MKII. Will probably go with an Onkyo 605 reciever. Speakers...oh my...like there arent' any to chose from:rolleyes:

Anyway, this place seems like it has a weatlh of info (just gotta take the time and dig for it).

Oh...budget...around $2500 for sub/speakers/reciever....not set in stone.

regards,

John

Welcome to the forums.

I would start out reading this which is the what to buy on the main area of this site.

With your price range I would probably spend around 500 on a sub, 1500 on speakers and the rest on a receiver and cables.

As to speakers I would check out av123 x-series. In the price range they are the best I have heard.

For the sub I would look at svs or hsu.

Once you decide on speakers you can pick out a pretty good receiver. There are plenty that would do a good job and push the speakers well. Yamaha, denon and Onkyo will make well priced receivers that will do a great job.

For cables you won't need anything special check out monoprice and bluejeanscables they have good prices for good quality and no snake oil.

Sounds like you have a good handle on things thus far. For the price of the 5080 you could probably put in a decent FP system if that interests you. Or in a room that size you could put in a larger RP set for the money. Also, assuming a single tier of seating you should consider a full 7.1 system with multi-polar speaks on the sides and monos for the ears for an enveloping system. A Polk RTi8/CSi5/Fxi3/RTi4 combo or Ascend Acoustics 340/170s combined with either Def Tech BP2Xs/Polk Fxi3s for surrounds would work nicely. As always it’s your ears that must decide what sounds good.
