Hooking up TV,DVD,Reciever the right way

Hey guys

Just looking for some good info for my setup.

I've got regular cable no Digitial cable or Dish.

I've got RCA cables and a S-video cable

I want to hookup the DVD player to play directly to the TV and also with the receiver. I don't want the surround sound on all of the time. I want the option of watching a dvd straight to the TV and sometimes watching a dvd with the receiver and the surround sound on.

The tv has an s-video hookup and the RCA connections. Should I run the s-video from the DVD directly to the tv. Then use the RCA connectors to go from the DVD to the reciever then to the TV.

Any advise would be great

Either way should work just fine. The composite video, with RCA plug, is a tad worse than the S video so decide which you want to sacrifice for straight to TV. Perhaps use the S video when you use your receiver?

You only need to ge the audio to the receiver if you want to be able to watch dvd on the tv with or without the receiver. If your tv has audio out, then you can do it easily:

S-Video (or composite) from dvd player to tv video input.
Analog audio from dvd player to tv audio input.
TV audio out to the receiver.
