I have a Onkyo NR709 and just purchased a used Outlaw LFM-2. The receiver has a HDMI out for sub and the Outlaw has a single audio in. Do they make an adapter to go from HDMI to audio? Or what is the best way to hook up sub with this receiver. Thanks for your help!

Look more closely at the receiver's back and/or your owners manual. Subs use an RCA jack, just like the one on the back of the sub

There's an RCA plug in that has a white box (2 connectors above the left surround back speaker connection) under the Pre Out group. Search monoprice.com for subwoofer cables, find the right length from where you're going to put the receiver and sub, and use one of those to connect your sub.

I circled the subwoofer output and put an arrow pointing to it. The pre-outs have also been circle (thin lines are a bit hard to see):

I think the one you circled with the arrow is the input. The other ones are the outputs.

Correct: they are pre-outs, which I mentioned in my post. :) Did I say output for the other one, though? Oops - my mistake. The one with the arrow is the input. Plug the sub into one of the outputs. I'd edit my post but can't anymore...

sub hook-up

I have ordered a audio cable from monoprice which should be here in a couple of days. My front tower speakers are on backorder and won't be in till middle of February. I was just asking to be ready. I guess I can hook sub up without towers?

What is the HDMI "sub out" for? In the top right next to the "PC In" in the image on page 1. This is all new to me. I need to read the manual but there are to many if and or buts and I want to make sure I get the best out of what I bought by hooking up the appropriate ways. thanks to all for their help!

You've got the manual?

What is the HDMI "sub out" for?
There is none.

bla bla bla...I need to read the manual...bla bla bla
Yes, you do. Most people would have done that first. You might even find that your questions will be answered there. And, it's quicker, maybe not easier, than posting your questions here and waiting for answers.

Looking on page 17 of the .pdf on the Onkyo website, that HDMI Sub output appears to be for a secondary display, like a projector.

Poor job by Onkyo on that - if HDMI IN 1-7 worked, why couldn't they just do HDMI OUT 1 and HDMI OUT 2?

edit: yup, you got it... too slow on my part.

I see the "HDMI out sub" is for projector, etc.
I don't have that option on my 707 and I'm sure I really don't need it, but options are always good. No worries ask any questions you want that's why the forum is here. We all get nervous when we can't figure out these things. Onkyo has good customer service as well.
