I'm hooking up my parents tv is a panasonic plasma TH-50PX80U and will be hooked up to a cable hd box and standard Toshiba vcr/dvd burner. There is no receiver hooked up.

Currently it is hooked up as follows. Cable into the cable box then component out to the tv. Also out of cable box into the dvd player then out to the tv via component.

I tried to connect using hdmi for both, but I don't get any sound. On the tv setup screen I did assign video from hdmi 1 for the cable box and hdmi 2 for the dvd player, but when I goto choose the audio, hdmi is not an option so I get no sound. I have to select either component or digital.

Next question is for my own setup. I have directv hd box model hd20, samsung vr-320 vcr/dvd recorder combo and a toshiba dlp tv. No receiver setup on this system. Currently I have the hd box to the tv via component. Also the dvd to the tv via component. How can I hook it up so that I can record on dvd something that is on tv? On the back of the dvd player is av1 in and also ant in. Currently when I watch the hd box I select on the tv component 1 and when I watch the dvd player it's component 2.

Hi. "Digital" is the default audio selection for HDMI according to page 23 of the owner's manual.

Did you set it to "digital" and still have no sound over HDMI?

when I select digital the only way I get sound is by hooking up the red & white out of the cable box into the tv.

Is the same true for the DVD player?

I ask because I'm wondering if there is an audio setting on the cable box that needs to be changed.

I don't know about the dvd audio, just tried the cable and it wouldn't work. It's my parents setup and I'm back home already. I'll check that out tomorrow.

I have the problem figured out with my setup. Something must be wrong with the av1 input. On the front is av2 and when I go from the hd box into av2 I don't have a problem.
