I have an old SOny Surround Sound receiver. I bought Pioneer surround sound speakers - I have 2 speakers, 2 surround sound speakers, a center channel speaker and a sub woofer. The Sony receiver has labels for connecting all of the speakers except the sub woofer - although there is a place to connect two additional impedance speakers. Can I connect this subwoofer tot he existing SOny receiver or do I have to buy a new receiver that has a specific connection in the back labelled for a subwoofer?

Well that depends on whether the sub is powered or not. If the sub is powered you would be better of buying a new receiver with a LFE/Sub output, for the best possible sub sound. If the sub is not powered the only easy way to hook it up would be to hook the sub up to the receiver using the front speaker outputs, then go from you sub to your speakers. The reason you go from your subs to your speakers is because sometimes subs have built in crossovers
