Hooking up a powered sub to Vizio soundbar

Hi there,

I have the VIZIO S3820W-C0 38-inch 2.0 Home Theater Sound Bar hooked up to my main TV through an yellow/red RCA cable.

I wanted to get a cheap powered sub to add to the mix for now until I can afford a decent home theater setup.

Could I get the Dayton Audio SUB-800 8" or the Monoprice 8" sub or the Yamaha YST-SW012 8" and connect it to the soundbar via the Sub out port? Was going to get a cable like this to connect the 2 (Mediabridge ULTRA Series RCA Y-Adapter (8 Feet) - 1-Male to 2-Male for Digital Audio or Subwoofer).

Alternatively, could I take the sub from my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 and hook it up via the same method?

I was confused since everything I have read has a sub setup through a receiver and wasn't sure if I could just plug it into the soundbar? Does that work since the sub is powered on its own?

Thanks for the help!

It appears you can use any regular powered subwoofer with the unit. It's a piece of cake.

On the back of your unit, the bottom right has a jack labeled "sub out".

Run an rca/rca interconnect from that to the input on the sub

I don't think that promedia sub will work. That's part of an integrated system and isn't made to be used standalone.

check your soundbars instructions for specifics but, in a nutshell, your sub will have a level control and a crossover control. Set the level to how you want it and use the crossover as your ears dictate.

Enjoy.

Thanks for your reply!

I did some more research after I posted and figured my Pro Media sub would probably not work.

Now I don't want to spend more than $100 so I know I am in the budget category. Will I notice any real difference between the ones I posted though or do you have a recommendation?

I haven't tried any of those subs but Dayton subs have a great reputation for bang for the buck.

Go for the 10" Dayton if you can, it will be worth the minor extra cost and should blend well with the Vizio.
