I recently purchased a Sony MHC-ec79i. I realize that there is no input for a sub and I was wondering if it is possible to connect it through a headphone jack or pc input

if i understand you correctly you want to add a subwoofer to the system? if so then what you could do is buy a sub that supports speaker level inputs and first run the speaker wire coming from the system through the subs speaker level inputs and then hook the speakers to the outputs on the sub .

from experience, a cheap system paired with a nice sub = the cheap speakers being drowned out by the sub. ive demoed that system before and it is very "boomy" and hollow sounding. i would think if a sub was added, it would just throw the bad sound off kilter and make it sound worse. and there is no way that system can pump no 380w of power because i highly doubt those speakers included even have enough xmax to handle it. not to mention even a moderatley effecient speaker system can produce deafening sound at 80wpc. i once hooked a nice KEF sub up to a cheapo RCA shelf system and it did exactly what i claimed it would do, sounded worse then without it.

Not a dig, but it ain't worth the effort.

What yep said is true, but so is what Isiberian said.

That system really doesn't lend itself well to adding anything to it.

You CAN add a sub, but you'll be cutting and splicing wires all over creation and that just increases the chances of smoking it.

i always say leave shelf systems alone when it comes to adding parts. i also always say never buy shelf systems :D
