I was looking to buy a speakers for my home theatre system but after reading all reviews etc its even more confusing. I shortlisted Definitive Technologies Mythos STS and Apherion 6T Hybrid. Other than the price difference which is visible I am clueless. For the receiver I think I am going to go with Denon 4308Ci or the Onkyo906. Still not 100% sure depends on your feedbacks. What would you advise and if not these speakers which ones would you recommend. I am looking for a 60/40 movies/music split on usage.

It appears to me that the budget is lopsided too much in favor of the receiver. Don't get me wrong... there's nothing wrong with a nice receiver!

But, you ought to choose the speakers first. Just hang out for a while. Use the search function.

Better yet, grab a few familiar cd's, notepad, and start hitting up some stores. When you find a pair or two that you like, use the search function here to see what folks might have to say about them.

Be sure to audition LOTS of brands/models to find one that you like best. Don’t let others decide for you, and don’t go by reviews. They’re a good starting point to get familiar with brand names, but no one knows what sounds good to you better than you do.

See if your local Best Buy or HT store will let you audition their speakers (Def Tech or whichever) for free - no restocking fees, etc.

Room acoustics make a huge difference.

How the speakers sound in your own home (acoustics) is the most important thing.

How large is the space (L x W x H) you’ll be using them in?

You could save some money and get the Denon 3808ci. It is not wireless like the 4308 but I have a Ethernet cable hooked up to it so I can stream internet radio and do updates via the internet. I have the Aperion 6Ts and 6C and they sound awesome with HT and music.

I would agree with Josten, that you will be more mileage by allocating more budget towards the speakers rather than the receiver. I auditioned the Onkyo 705, 805, Denon 889 and eventually a separates system and although I saw incremental improvements, upgrading the speakers (kef 5001 satellite, kef iq9, mythos st and finally eficion f300) made a much more significant improvement. Well, speaker placement made the most biggest difference...
