Family member is looking at the Bose Lifestyle 38 to provide home theater and wireless speakers for other rooms in his house. Any feedback on the Bose system or advice as to other systems that will provide the wireless speaker option. Thank you

Well most people here won't say anything good about blose, me included, so lets just skip that.

Wireless speakers are currently plagued with problems that are easy to avoid by taking the time to run wires. Many wireless systems use radio frequencies that are prone to interference and often times will be easily heard during regular playback and in extreme cases the wireless unit will pick up other frequencies and "turn themselves on" playing static.

Another thing to note is that wireless speakers are far from wireless you run just as many if not more wires, just to different places.

Right, "wireless" speakers still need power; you won't have to run a signal line, but you will still need to run a power line.

Regarding opting for the Bose system, your family member looking to set up the system needs to make a few decisions,
1) Is value for money important
2) Is audio and video quality important
3) Capabilities for current and future technologies (i.e. HDMI, Hi-def audio, video, etc.)
4) Sufficient inputs and outputs
5) Are aesthetics and ease of setup/ use more important compared to all points above

Bose gets high points for brand image, aesthetics and ease of setup/ use, but they pretty much missed the mark on everything else. The Lifestyle 38 is going for about $2700. In this price range there are several options to put together a stunning home audio setup, considerably better than the Lifestyle 38. It will take some time to do research during equipment selection and a little effort during setup.

Regarding opting for wireless speakers, IMHO, run cables.
