How is treble/bass adjusted on these receiver systems like Yamaha, Denon?

As minimal as possible, if at all. :)
But the D&M products have a Graphic EQ that you can access and adjust as desired... I would presume the same for most others.

For Denon at least, there is also a tone control for adjusting bass and treble on the fly that works when Audyssey is enabled (but Dynamic EQ disabled). I guess other receivers have similar functionality.

Interesting, I thought I had to turn off Audyssey altogether for tone controls to appear on my Denon, but you're right, it's just DynEQ. I never use tone controls, tho....would probably use the graphic eq over tone control, too but prefer DynEQ overall.

I too prefer DynEQ over tone controls. For my Denon AVR-X4200W one cannot use Graphic EQ with Audyssey enabled and I much prefer XT32 over tweaking with Graphic EQ. For the newer Denons there is the new app one can use for tweaking without loosing Audyssey, as I understand it.

Same here. The app tweaks Audyssey, it doesn't eliminate it....it's an Audyssey app. You can limit where it's effective (like just keeping it below schroeder for example) or customize curves.
