I currently have the BOSE 3-2-1 DVD player/speaker system that was given to me as a gift. It's served me well for the past year or so, but I want to change it with a dedicated receiver, full 5.1 speakers and a dedicated DVD player that I can update as need be.

I find that I buy a DVD-Speaker system and the DVD player is not up to par, I'm stuck with it like I am right now.

My living room is about 24x18 and I would love to have wireless speakers in the rear so I'm not running any wires to the back as I'm not certain that I'll be leaving my TV and system in the living room. I might eventually move it to the basement when it's finished.

That being said, what are some recommendations for receiver & speaker combo? I saw the Pioneer HTP-4600 reviewed here, are there any other systems like that?

Regards

there are SONY systems with wireless rears (utilizing IR I think).
but I should say that consider sony only if it has a good warranty

That being the case, I would say you should plan accordingly. And that means speakers wired to an a/v receiver.

Your room is quite big and the basement wouldn't be any smaller, I would guess.

You might want to take a look at this:

Keep in mind that the surround channels go on the sides of the listening position. Check out the dolby speaker spec on this or other sites.

In your large room you will need a descent bookshelf system and sub for a real HT experience. The new Onix X-LS bookshelf speakers have gotten great reviews and the matching center will be out soon.
