I have some experience with the Tsi series and they are alright. At high volumes, I have heard tweeter breakup. The Tsi200 bookshelf speakers are similar to to 300 towers and would save you some money to put into a better sub.

IMHO, the TSi series is really made to be put on a Best Buy sales floor and sold to the masses. Polk Audio (and a lot of other brands for that matter), make more refined speakers that are sold at boutique shops. The speakers aren't necessarily more expensive, just with a different target audience. For example, Klipsch has a synergy line of speakers that overlaps in price with their reference line. The synergy speakers were/are sold to big box stores and online retailers but were regarded as pretty poor speakers. Their similarly priced speakers in the reference line, however, were much more highly regarded. Same price, two different design goals.

I would get some music you are familiar with, or look for suggestions online, and just listen to as many similarly priced systems as possible and see what you like.

Thanks for the quick reply 701.

I will be using this setup to watch blu ray movies and listen to music genres mainly rock and pop.

the reason for going with floor standing speakers is I believe they will be helpful in 2.1 mode when listening to music. I might be wrong but thats what i have heard from friends and online sources. In addition, floor standing looks better.

What do you consider good brands of speaker?

Thanks

Few first comments: Too much money in AVR, not enough money spent on speaker.
Stay the f$#$ away from Fluance. Polk subwoofers are terrible.
I know Bic products are cheap, but they sound accordingly as well....

What's your total budget for whole setup?

Have you compared the sound of these Polk speakers to other speakers out there?

After you have listened to other speakers out there like DefTech, Paradigm, Klipsch, Mirage, and as many other speakers as you can, and the Polk speakers still sound great to you in comparison, then that is what matters.

Personally, I have never liked the sound of any Polk speakers I've ever heard.

But then again, I feel the same about Paradigm & B&W, but a bunch of people love the sound of Paradigm & B&W.

So as long as the speakers sound great to you after you have compared them to other speakers, that is what counts.

Thank u all for the reply

My budget for the setup is ~ $1500. I am skeptical about fluance but just wanted to get opinions. I am gonna stay away from them.

@ AcuDefTechGuy I havent had a chance to listen to Polk in any of the stores. Bestbuy has deftech but not polk. I did only go by the reviews.

How are infinity speakers...I like the PSB as well but they dont fit the budget.

The Infinity Primus P362 (or the newer models) are very famous.

For the price, the P362 is extremely hard to beat.

I have the P362s in my family room, and I think they sound pretty good when compared to every single speakers I've ever listened to.

I think many people would be very, very happy with the P362s.

Budget $500 for the receiver - if you can get a 708 for that great. If you're in the US you can buy a factory reconditioned 708 for less than $500.

Assuming that's total room size without any attached spaces open to it either of these should rock.

Option 1
Speakers: Infinity Primus P162 bookshelves as main, PC250 center, P152 bookshelves as surrounds (total $470 shipped).

Subwoofer: Hsu VTF-2 MK3 ($570 shipped).
Option 2
Speakers: Infinity Primus P362 towers and a PC350 center and wait on the P152 surrounds until you've saved another $150 (total $600 - plus $150 later for the surrounds).

Subwoofer: Elemental Designs A2-300 ($415 shipped). Note that these are built to order which can take 2 weeks to 2 months. The Hus VTF-2 MK3 would be a ready to ship alternative but a budget buster.

This Package Sub Frequency Response: 35Hz–150Hz ±3dB :(
The rest of speakers pretty thou for the buck...
I would take this over his origional list - he gets two free bookshelf
speakers - he can sell the sub and 2 speakers, and then he can go
and buy a better sub. However, that may be a lot of work.

This is one I like - even if he is thinking about towers

I prefer these over Polk and Bic - and I have owned them. They
are also decent with music - Do not let the name fool you.
http://www.htd.com/Products/level-two-speakers

And yes, Infrinity is decent.

With what ever system you start with - You can always build
up - Like starting with the fronts, center and sub, and then
you can save up for the surrounds.

Try to get that sub from the subwoofer makers - get one that goes
down low and has good power.
