I'm a beginner so go easy on me. For Christmas my wife bought me a Yamaha YHT-585 5.1 home theater system and I need advice on how to set it up optimally. Here is a list of devices I am trying to connect to the system:
1. Olevia 242T 42 inch HDTV w/ HDMI connections (only supports up to 1080i)
2. Comcast HDTV cable box with HDMI connection
3. XBOX 360 - Currently connected with component cables but could buy HDMI connection if necessary.
Also, The Yamaha receiver has 3 HDMI connections (OUT, DVD, DTV/CBL). Other than general advice on optimal setup I have some specific questions as well.
Q1. Given that my TV only supports 1080i do I gain anything out of using HDMI connections rather than component connections? I don't mind buying more HDMI cables but unless I don't gain any performance in sound or video.
Q2. In order to take full advantage of the 5.1 surround sound do I have to use certain types of connections (i.e. coaxial)?
Q3. Should I connect everything into my receiver and just have one cable to my TV?
Thanks for your patience in advance.
