Home Theater Sep-up Help

I am new at this so I need help. I will be buying a new plasma tv and need help on what is best to buy for my home theater. I currently have a home theater in a box but want to upgrade to a better system. Also, my current system only gives me sound from my speakers when I play a DVD. Please help a novice. Thanks

how much are you looking to spend on a tv & reciever/speakers?

also..how large is your room?
