Home Theater Protection...

Hello all... I am setting up shop after relocating recently and my home theater protection is turning into a Nightmare... (God I hope someone helps me)...
Okay I've done a quite a bit of reading, here and other sites, however I don't feel as I am doing "real" research (I have never had a problem doing research) more like electricity currents 101... The problem seems to be that there is too much info and it really comes down to personal need/use and region you live in, soil, etc...

I really am looking for any useful info... so here we go... I just relocated to a small island in the Caribbean where the power goes off quite freqently (maybe 2/3 times a month, if not more)... I rent and can't protect the whole apt (and look to move to a rental house asap)... I am gonna be using my projector for my primary, so I'm gonna be needing UPS, so the bulb can cool properly during power outages...

I'm seriously considering the tripp lite ht1500ups and still haven't narrowed down exactly what I need with apc... and I'm really trying to stay under $200, for now...

I'm dumb, but not stupid... I've used surge suppessors before and know about the joules and bells and whistles, on them and you get what you pay for... but never experinced power outages (like this) in combination w/the high salt content in the air (which is a whole different animal... I've been slowly building my AV treasure chest for some time and left most of my old stuff with my mom, but the good stuff was a pretty penny... I'm simple small town South Texas boy who got offered a once in a life time job...

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2 cents....

Connect everything to a surge protector...and don't worry about it.

While I can't recommend a model off the top of my head, you most definitely should be considering a UPS that includes shut down procedures built in to help things automatically shut off when power is lost. Almost every major manufacturer, I believe, includes at least one model that offers this capacity. Since most also include surge supression and power filtering, it will only do good things for your lifetime product span.

The cost is really not what you can look at. If it destroys one projector lamp by not having proper power when it is necessary, then that's an instant $300+ expenditure - and you still have no protection.

So, do your homework on what is there, then just make the purchase. I would try to do it within a week or so - the sooner the better. If you gotta go cheap, then go cheap. If you can't get automated shut down, then be aware of it, and be ready should a power failure occur. You may buy the wrong thing the first time, but it will give you good experience and some time to do more homework without worrying about your gear as much.

Yeah... I'm moving on it ASAP... Thats why I'm looking for advise and/or tips... And your right on w/the bulb, hence my conclusion in getting UPS... I am fully open to all products.

However due to the move and other necessities... my current budget is approx $200 (for this next pay period)... My thing the research is so time consuming and the topic is difficult, my work schedule and drinking time don't allow time for "proper" research... Thanks for the help and all useful info is welcomed...

I use an APC SmartUPS 1400, and it does a good job of handling all the power problems we have here (I also have one on my fish tank, and my refrigerator). The SmartUPS models output a nice clean sine-wave. Seems to work well for me. You can purchase a used one on ebay with new batteries, or one without batteries and get new ones yourself for under $200.
