Hello all,
Hoping some experts can help me.
Starting to construct my first home theater.
Would love some advice if you have the time.

Room 22x24x9
going with a 92" screen, front projector
want a 5.1 system
budget for speakers/receiver - $2500-3000

Just from reading forums, it seems that paradigm or axiom would be good choices to look at. Was thinking of the Yamaha rxv 2500 or the denon 2805 for the receiver.

Everyone says, "listen to the speakers before you buy"
but that is really not too practical for me where I live. Also, I am an AV newbie. Never even used speakers for my T.V.
I want a decent system, mostly for when friends and family will be using it.

Any other suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

you could consider the Pioneer 1015tx since it has pretty much the same power/feature list and save about $500 to add to your speaker budget

So are you interested in good sound, or just impressing people with how it looks? 3k is a good chunk of change to throw away on something you may not like. Where do you live that you can't demo anything?

thanks for the info, I will check out the pioneer, but I found a good deal on the Yamaha ($630), so I dont know how much that will save me.

What do you think about the speakers?

thats a great deal on the Yammy, is that an authorized retailer, b/c I thought they had to charge at least a certain price ($800) anyways, the Pioneer can be found for around $430 incl. shipping from an authorized dealer. For the speakers you picked some great ones. If you can't demo them, Axiom is probably your best shot, as you can send them back if you dont like them and only pay shipping. I'm a paradigm fan myself, and you can make a nice 7.1 system with your budget. If you want floor standing fronts look at the Monitor series, if you dont have to have towers, look at the Studio Series (the step up)

That's a great price on the 2500. Go for it.
Check out the AV123 Rocket speakers. If you're married, the wife will certainly approve. Similar to Axiom, but IMO better looking. If you have an ugly wife, then don't worry about it. :p

I don't know how you couldn't say the Rockets are better looking than the Axioms. Real rosewood veneer with a ton of high-gloss laquer vs. a vinyl finish? Please. Not knocking Axiom, but on looks, the Rockets stomp Axiom.
