Hi I'm new to all this home theater'ing and I'm having quite a lot of trouble right now with setting this up. I'm not getting any sound at all! So these are the connections i have right now:

5 speakers hooked up to the receiver with banana plugs
1 subwoofer connected to receiver with the purple line (pre-amp out?)
hdmi display connected to hdmi 1 on TV(I can see the HK receiver menu on my TV)
hdmi connected from xbox 360 to hdmi 3 on receiver.
FM antenna/aux cable

Sooo...what am I doing wrong here? am I missing some connections for now? I just wanted to test the speakers first but the "ezset" is not giving me any sound on any of the speakers or subwoofer. The aux or even the radio isnt giving me any sound.

What I can do now is see video for my xbox [hdmi 1 on TV then hdmi 3 on receiver] but there's no sound as well. I've tried configuring the audio source to hdmi 3 or tried optical, no luck.

So.....either I'm doing something really wrong or there's something wrong with the receiver? help =[

Thanks everyone

How exactly are your speakers hooked up. Does the receiver power on? I'm willing to bet you hooked up your speakers incorrectly.

Your cables should go into the binding posts on the back. Each speaker gets 2 of them that go to 2 of the receivers.

Each spot on your receiver has a positive colored terminal on top and a black negative terminal below it. To use a banana plug you need to attach it to the bare wire of the speaker wire.

I am betting your issue is related to a simple screw up with your hook up.

Hi there!

I went back and took out all the banana plugs [thinking I may have installed them incorrectly" and just used the "screws" that the receiver had. Black to black, red to red. I'm still kind of lost @@

The receiver always seem to show only "L" and "R" and seems to blink.

Even "if" i had the speakers incorrectly hooked up [which i don't think is the case] shouldn't the subwoofer [connected by the purple cable] work atleast?

would it have something to do with my hdmi cables?

are you getting any picture at all from ur 360?

make sure that ur the HDMI from ur H/K to ur TV is connected where it says HDMI out and the hdmi from xbox to ur H/K is in HDMI IN, plug it in2 HDMI 1.

also play with ur receiver a bit, using the remote change sources until you see the xbox menu and if u see the xbox menu play a game or something and if there is no sound well then u have hooked up ur speakers the wrong way. i had a 247 and 354 and i remember the first time i hooked em up there was always something done wrong.

dont get me wrong H/K ROCKSSSS. great receiver.

try plugging ur HDMI from XBOX to ur AVR into HDMI IN 1.

keep in mind u have to manually select which source u want. u said that u have it plugged into hdmi 3, therefore u must select HDMI 3 from ur sexy looking remote.

wait i just carefully read ur 1st post and u are getting picture. either ur speakers are not hooked up the right way or the receiver has been selected to the wrong source or its just messed up or the HDMI cables.

do test ur hdmi cables plug them directly from ur xbox to ur tv. but ur sub is not working either (which has nothing 2 do with ur HDMI cables) i would say that u have to play with ur receiver a bit, change sources or something like that.

thanks for the input everyone. I've been playing around it for a few days now butwithout luck. I am getting picture the xbox via hdmi, but no sound. Both video and audio is selected to "hdmi 3" but im not getting audio. The radio or aux function isnt giving me audio either.

So I'm firm say that:

A. I have the speakers hooked up wrong (?). All I did was plug + to + and - to -. Tried with banana plugs and without. Unless theres something more to it...?

B. DOA Receiver? All I get is "L" and "R" flashing on the display.

thanks again

Being new at this I ran into road block like this too. Both times I couldn't get any sound was because I assign my HDMI incorrectly. I could receive the video and not the audio. I finally assigned my HDMI to AUX. Once I did that, everything worked. Hopefully, its something that simple. Good luck.

Where you located?

Do you have any tech-savvy friends you can get to take a look? A fresh set of eyes can reveal stuff.

If you plug the mic that came with the receiver in then you can test every channel and run the setup.

If that doesn't work call HK tech support immediately.
