Home theater dilemma

Hi guys,

After surfing and lurking for months, I have finally decided to figure out the dilemma that I have..
Right now, I am living in rental house with no particular room for home theater but I am dying to get a decent sound system. Also, my budget at this time would be about max 2K.
And I know for fact that in 2 years from now, I am going to have a very nice home theater room set up and with connectors etc going to various rooms/speaker zones.
So, should I wait for another 2 years thinking that maybe there will be better receivers etc by then and my budget would increase as well ..OR...should I go ahead and buy a nice receiver and front speakers to enjoy in the meantime and then build from there when I get my house/room??
Any advice will be helpful for me to figure this dilemma out..
Thanks
Bix

You never know what tomorrow, or 2 years from now will be.

If you wish, buy something and enjoy it. Go with 2.1 or 3.1 to start.

So true. In 2 years better receivers may be available. But two years after that, and two years after that, etc... I agree with ziegl. Choose wisely, buy the best you can afford and enjoy. I also live in a rental, small bungalow. Bookshelfs would have been just fine for me but I chose to go with towers in anticipation of moving to a larger house.

"Better" is a relative word. Yes, receivers with more features may be available but their audiable superioity might be questioned. Receivers made several years ago still sound pretty durn nice today. I'm still running a Denon 2802 made in 2003 and don't really feel I'm missing anything sound-wise. It doesn't have HDMI switching but that doesn't affect the sound.

So, the only real impediment by buying a full system now is that the wiring, particilarly to the rears, might be a bit unsightly if you can't hide them as you would in your own place.

But, whatever you do, if you're looking for a HT experience, buy at least the front three speakers at about the same time. They should be from the same make/line to assurethey match and there's no guarantee the line might change in a year or so.

Thanks Y'all.
I will keep this in mind. I guess I rather wait coz it may depend upon the type of space I have and stuff like that....I guess I will suffer for 2 more years for now with this suckin' HTiB I have....

Maybe there should be a new forum category named:

I've Already Made Up My Mind and Know What I'm Gonna Do Regardless of What You Say... What Do Ya'll Think?

I love these.
