at the show
I was at the show last Saturday for only 5 hours, as a novice I was overwhelmed of all the high end A/V products they have there as I go along and tried my best to educate myself on this hobby
. I did not pay much attention on Receivers mainly because the common but good brand such as Denon, Yamaha, Marantz or Pioneer are not there at the show. I looked at Bryston amp and Outlaw receiver & amplifiers which they give discounts if you order during the 3 day show. A lot of tube amps on display there also. I found out that vinyl records still sells like hot cake these days. They have turtables that sells up to $4000 or more. Now I am keeping my old Kenwood turntable. I bought $200 worth of SACDs and enjoy the show discounts.
DTS have small booth there at the show.
I spend most of the time auditioning speakers. A lot of weird looking speakers but most of them sounds really nice inside the treated rooms. I like the sound of Totem bookshelf Rainmaker series speaker. I found out that Totem are not using Canadian NRC for their speaker design. Pioneer EX speakers sounds pretty good also but its a $9,000 a pair floorstander.
HSU show their new bookshelf speaker that looks like Klipsch Reference series with a horn tweeter. It sounded very good and not bad for $125 each. Im wondering whats going to happen with Ascend speakers/HSU sub package if HSU starts selling their own bookshelf speakers. They also giving a good percent discount on HSU products if you order it at the show.
I was amazed and impressed at the sound coming out of a small odd shape high end Onkyo D-TK10 2 way bass reflex speaker. Its small but punchy. Everybody that came in the room was asking if they have a subwoofer running with it. The specs says that it can go down to 50hz and the high up to 100khz because of highly responsive ring drive tweeter. The sound was very clear and detailed. Price for that is $1600 a pair.
I wish I had more time to audition more speakers at the show.
