What is your budget, what do you have so far, and what will you use it for {music? movies?}...

AVR Pioneer SC-1222-K 7.2-Channel Network Ready AV Receiver - Newegg.com
fronts FOCAL Chorus 814V 716v Dual 6½ Floorstanding Speakers Gloss Black Pair | Accessories4less
center FOCAL Chorus CC814V 800V Dual 6½" Center Speaker Gloss Black Each | Accessories4less
and when you buy them 2 they give you a free subwoofer that you can sell or use somewhere else...
Surrounds {you can almost pick anything for surrounds} KEF C1 Two Way 4" Bookshelf Speakers Pair Black | Accessories4less

this sub is decent for the money and goes on sale for 299 once and a while- Klipsch Reference RW-12d 12" Powered Subwoofer Each w/ New box - Newegg.com

for around 2300 you could do a lot worse plus you get the free sub that would be good for a pc 2.1 system

The best audio system would be to have someone custom build you speakers voice precisely for your room with the best drivers, amps, and treatments in the world. Such a system would be very costly though and I'm certain you have a budget of some kind.

Speakers worth considering

Salks, Ascends, Pioneers, Philharmonics, SVS and others mentioned here of course

For Subs: Funk or SVS.

For receivers: Avoid Onkyo and Sony and you should be safe.
