Hi,

Hello to everyone and it has been very educational reading the posts here. I am a total n00b at audio so please do forgive me.

Ok here goes - I would like to upgrade my current audio set-up home theater in a box. I do live in Africa so most of the options suggested are not available to me, however we do have access to Bose and Rokit 5/6 monitor speakers.

A Bose Acoustimass 5 will cost double what a pair of Rokit 5 speakers will go for. And that will exclude the amp required for the Bose or the mixer (for the rokit outputs - correct me if I am wrong) for the Rokits. With the above in mind what will be the better buy - am looking at listening to music (low to moderate volumes with the once in a while loud) and movies. My living room is 4m x 5m - seating is between 3m and 4m from the TV/Radio.

Thanx for your help.

If those are your only two options, go with the Rokits, specifically the Rokit Powered 5/6 G2's. You have two options for connectivity for the rokits which is balanced XLR and RCA.

Tell us more about your source and current setup.

Current Setup

Hi,

Currently I just have a standard TV (LG 32") and an LG Home Theater in a Box. The TV I can keep but the sound I am looking to lose.

The has been a lot of mention of the Rokit Monitor Speaakers being nearfield - is the difference that large and are they worse that a HTIB standard setup (LG, Samsung, Sony Brands)?

For optimum sound quality yes they are designed for nearfield applications. Your room size and viewing distance will determine what it sounds like. I used them in a pretty nearfield application but I was able to absolutely BLAST my tiny 10x10 room with them. Hard hitting bass, seriously.

Which LG 32" do you have and what audio connections are offered?

Hi,

I was looking at getting a separate DVD/Receiver for playing for the audio output?
