I have come into possesion of a set of speakers that were mounted on the ceiling of a small church. They're not half bad sounding, and I will be using them in a 5.1 setup. The problem is they come complete with MASSIVE wall mounts bolted into their bottom sides. Naturally, I will be taking the mounts and their respective bolts out in order to set them on speaker stands. I thought about just removing the mounts and popping the bolts back in, but I think that will make it difficult to place them on the stands. If I don't take that route, what should I do to plug the holes. I can think of a few things to use (dowell and glue, rubber stopper of some sort, etc.), but what will be the best choice? Will it even matter? Thanks in advance.

How about using the bolts to secure the speaker to your new speaker stand.

A mixture of MDF sawdust and woodglue would work very well applied to the inside of the enclosure. Otherwise, the dowels and wood glue seems to be a good option. Make sure to apply a bit of silicone based caulk on the inside once the glue dries with the dowels. :)

Dowels and "Gorilla" glue will work great. This glue expands, so there won't be any leaks.

We've got a winner

It looks like the dowel and glue option is a winner. I'll probably use some silicone caulk as well just to be sure I've got a good seal. Thank you all!
