i got a good deal on refurbished jbl 230s a month or so ago and waited for the 235c to go on sale.
found a refurbished deal a couple weeks ago for 235c

while i was waiting for the 235c to go on sale i used a dennis muphy affordable accuracy monitor as a center with the 230s
audyssey off always and it all sounded pretty good. i use man of steel supermans first flight as demo. this is a bedroom setup with a hsu vtf2 mk5

so finally today after breaking the 235c in for a week or so i ran audyssey.
not sure what happened but it all sounds subdued compared to 230s and affordable accuracy monitor as center with audyssey off.

i honestly think the scene sounded better with the 230s and aam as center with audyssey off over the 230s and 235c after running audyssey.

any ideas what happened?

Audyssey isn't a qreat solution for many things. ;) Run it for levels and distances, then turn it off seems to be the best advice as far as Aud. goes. I used it for a little bit after running it, didn't have any real complaints, but it didn't do anything great, either. In all, it sounds best off, with my speakers set to proper size and xo, and a gentle mimicing of the Audyssey apps mid range correction at 2khz (but instead of a -3dB crater, a made a very slight -1.5dB swale in the Grachical EQ that took away a bit of liveliness from my room. (Just something fun to experiment with if interested.)

The right version of Audyssey can help considerably for bass. As you said, it doesn't seem to do much for the higher frequencies.
