Hi everyone Im new to this forum and home audio in general. I know computer hardware pretty well though so i understand a lot of technical jargon and what not so throw whatever advice you have at me.

Anyway, I JUST got my Harmon Kardon HK 3480 stereo reciever and this morning it shut off for no reason. I was listening to music at a very low volume and the reciever wasnt hot at all. I tried turning it back on and as soon as I did it displayed the message "PROTECT" and then turned off again. I've done everything to try and fix it but nothing works. Different power outlet, turning off every other piece of electronic equipment in the house, unhooking the speakers. Nothing works. It just displays the same "PROTECT" message and shuts off.

please help, i dont want to send it all the way back to the factory cuz i JUST got it.

Generally, since you say it happens at low volumes, this is indicative of a problem with the speaker runs. Check for any shorts.

If that fails, disconnect ALL speaker runs from te back of the receiver and try a set of headphones. It that fails, there's a problem with the receiver.

Was this a refurb by any chance?

I replaced an HK 395i, which sounded great and lasted forever, with an HK 3480. It sounded great but just stopped working today; I guess it didn't like my Sabbath record. Anyway, please let me know what you find out; mine is doing the same thing.

Peace
