HK AVR7300-think again

I submitted this as a reply to a post and figured it should be out there for all to see.
HMMMM. I have owned the HK AVR7300 since first released. It is a great system with almost unlimited capabilities. I paid almost $4000.00 to get it fresh off the line. There is one problem however that has caused me to question my purchase from day one. The volume randomly decides to increase to full. The only way to stop it is to turn the receiver off. If more than 30 feet away this causes a problem. Now I consider myself to be fairly fit but to stop my house from shaking down I need to cover that 30 feet in just a few seconds. Luckily my speakers can handle full volume without detrimental effects...My room ornaments that tend to shake off their bases are not so fortunate.
I contacted HK about this problem a couple of years ago and I was advised to turn the power off at the main source occasionally and let the static drain..................................and so I did. This seemed to work and music listening was again worry free, for a while. One day after draining my poor $4000 system I fired it up and sure enough the volume shot up to full. I recently contacted Eugene Popa, senior technician at HK Canada. Eugene advised me there is a "software upgrade" for my receiver. HMMM again. He suggested I download it from the net and try to fix my problem myself. Alrighty folks. Can anyone find me this magical software upgrade???
So should you purchase HK anything? I think not. I'm going back to another major brand. Makes me kinda sad though. I liked everything else about this receiver. Hope this helps anyone who may consider purchasing anything HK.

I replied to this in the other post but I'll do it here too.

There is a reset procedure outlined at the very back of your manual. Like right before the spec's. Unplugging it is the first thing to try but it should go on and tell you to press a series of buttons that will result in a micro processor reset that will restore your factory defaults so make sure you have everything written down.

I had the exact same problem and this cured it. As a matter of fact I had a thread regarding the issue. A couple of my friends have H/K's and we love 'em for what they do at their refurb price point.

Let us know how it behaves after the reset.

Regardless of how fast you can run, that's got to be bad for your hearing.

Not trying to tell you how to live, but each time that happens the damage is cumulative, and permanent.

Might be in your best interest to get your receiver fixed up.

Good luck.
