I'm interested in seeing the video processing in compared to the 7300. Anyone see this yet?

I might have one for sale soon.

I think upscaling is a joke... I can't tell the difference between an upscaled picture and one that is not. The only use for it that I can see is so you only have to run one cable from the amp to your tv.

So it's a 635 with:

2x1 HDMI Switching
Video Scaling to 720p/1080i to HDMI
10 more wpc
XM ready

for an MSRP of over $2,000 more than the 635? I think H/K done lost their minds!

I don't know, I think upconversion to HDMI is a great feature... but at only 85wpc  In that price range, I'd expect much more from a receiver.

Even the newest Denon AVR-2807 offers HDMI out on any input (not sure about its scaling) and the same features at 1/3rd the price. I wonder what's driving this price.

The upscaling it designed to match the display resolution, and not necessarily to make the image HD quality. Most likely the scaler and deinterlacer will be of better quality than what's standard in many displays.

I dunno.... They're using a Genesis FLI-xxxx deinterlacer/scaler. My DVD player has the same thing and only cost me $199 :p

I guess we'll have to want and see what the review sites have to say.

That's 85wpc with all channels driven. That's actually a decent amount of power. I have the 340 on display and it does pretty well at 70wpc.

As for the upscaling thing, I can't tell the difference, therefore I would never pay for it. I would only see it as a convenience factor or a selling feature. :)

Yeah, but to compare price range and power, the 7300 puts out 110wpc all channels and is like, $2,000 cheaper.

Try 139 watts into 7 channels.

Even the $650 Denon 3805 put out 93 watts into 7 channels, and 107 into 5.

There must be more to the 740 then we're seeing. The Oppo player puts out an amazing picture, but at $199, doesn't justify the price of the 740.

Man, no kidding.

You could buy a DVDO iScan VP30 and a AVR635 and still come in $500 less than the 740

Calihwy patrol -I think that you can't tell any difference in the upscaling feature because you are viewing it on a 20 inch television. Try stretching a 480i picture onto a 55 inch or larger hdtv and see how crappy it looks. I don't have any first hand experience however I've been considering getting a scaler myself. I've been researching a separate iscan scaler and hope to see a huge difference.

I've been thinking I should have the 7300 for some time now but haven't been able to justify it yet. I would have a very hard time paying 3500 for LESS audio performance. I understand the video capablilities are better but.. WOW. I wonder if we are all seriously missing something about this reciever that justifies its price tag.

I agree! I've got an AVR635 and have been very pleased with it. But it seems that they are lagging behind in upgrading features being offered by Yamaha, Denon, etc. at the same price point. It makes me think that I may have to look elsewhere when I decide to upgrade.
