HK AVR 7200 for $499! Great deal but I need some help and fast!!

:I have a friend who works in the AV department at Fry's Electronics. He told me today that the replacements for the 7200 were on the way and they had a 7200 left that they were blowing out. I really dont know all that much about this receiver and dont really have the time to research it because if I get this receiver I have to do it tomorrow! The only question is until he goes into work he is not sure if it was a demo, bought and returned or just for some reason has no box. It does have the remote though. Looking briefly on the net it looks to me to be quite nice, but I have no time to find a demo to listen to. I am relying on all of you to give me as much info as possible. Ups and downs etc. I will be using it with an SVS-PB2-ISD sub and Infinity Beta 50 fronts C360 center and Beta 20's for rears. Until now I was looking at the HK 630 or replacement, Yamaha rxv2500, and I have recently been looking more seriously at Denon and Marantz. I was hoping to spend no more than $800 - $900 so if the HK 7200 is all that it seems to be, $499 would be way better then $800 -$900. Also is HK as good a HT reciever as say Yamaha or Denon. I definitely want something good for both Ht and music. I appreciate all the help. Thanks guys! Marc B

From a sound quality and power standpoint it's hard to beat the 7200. It is missing some of the more recent features now found on the new AVR7300 like upcoversion of all video types to component with DCDi processing and DPLIIx but it is an awesome recv for that price. I think Onecall.com still has some new ones for about the same price as what you are seeing for the open box unit.

Go for it

I have two friends with the 7200 and the sound is incredible with tons of power to drive difficult speakers. It's missing some of the bells and whistles but you won't be disappointed with the sound...especially at that price. Be warned it's a monster. I believe it's over 50 pounds and 20" deep.

Good luck and let us know what you think of it if you buy it.

I bought one about two months ago. It’s a frigging monster all right. I bought it specifically to drive my 4 ohm / 400 watt speakers. I have no idea how loud they’ll play, cause I’d surely go deaf trying. It has more options and functions than I care to learn. I paid $900 for it, and that was a bargain at that price. It retailed for $1800 before the release of the 7300. It ain’t the prettiest receiver out, but who care’s. I don’t look at my music, I listen. It’s around 55 pounds and should be well ventilated. It’ll cook an egg when I’m driving 7 channels at less than 50%. As an FYI…this unit puts out considerably more than 100 watts. I think it was tested independently and came out around 145 watts.

I’d buy all they have, then sell them on Ebay for $800 and spend the earnings on different toys.
