HK AVR 635 Speaker Selection

Hi All! It's my first post and I am glad I found this site!

I recently moved and had to leave my in-wall speakers in the last house. They were Atlantic Technology and it was a 5.1 system running from my AVR 635.

I also had the entire home theater installed professionally to include a 106" screen (with a Hitachi projector).

Problem is that the local Home Theater stores want between 5 and 8K to install the same speakers and reinstall my existing equipment. I paid only 12K for the original so I have a problem with paying two thirds of that for just 5 speakers (I kept the sub).

I know Atlantic tech is expensive and they DID sound good. Is there a way I can get our cheaper, including installing these things myself (I do have an electronics background; I'm just lazy now

So are there any cheaper model speakers that I can get and I do want the 7.1 feature.

The estimates that the local Home Theater stores gave you, did the price of the installs include cables?

Yes it did. It included everything. However they would try to use what we could salvage from the first installation.

New HT speaker system

Get a quote for the speakers and a seperate quote from the same place or other installers for running the speaker wire. Buy a rotozip and mount/install the speakers yourself. Also, pulling the wiring is not that difficult, but it does require a bit of crawling around in the attic. I just completed a distributed audio system with speakers in 5 rooms of the house.

You might also consider an on-wall or bookshelf/floorstander speaker system so you wont lose your killer system when you move.

Wow...it took me just a full day to complete two full runs in my house. I ran complete wiring and cables to 2 different locations as the first one didnt work out too well (the old plasma above the fireplace issue) I am not very "handy" but it is very simple to run wires/cable through walls and the attic and it takes about 2 minutes per speaker to install in-ceiling speakers. There is noway I would spend 5 to 8K on something as simple as this.
