HK AVR 635 Doesn't Like DD~!

The HK635 I have on display at work doesn't want to recognize Dolby Digital!

I have tried numerous movies and it does the same thing every time; it just goes into a surround mode such as Logic 7, Neo: 6, etc...

I have also used 3 different dvd players, trying a combination of digital coax and fiber optic into different inputs on the reciever.

DTS works just fine.

It did work at one point, so I'm hoping it is a setting that I have overlooked. Customers like to press buttons randomly on it so I think one of them might have done it!

Any input?

Thanks,

~Chuck

Are you sure that Dolby Digital is Enabled in the Receiver? What about the Dvd players? Maybe going into the Menu on the player itself and making sure it is enabled will help.

There is no "enable" for DD on your receiver, it is automatic. Your DVD player needs to be set to bitstream rather than PCM or "normal" though, and make sure you set DTS to on and bitstream also. Make sure you also do not have any "downmix" functions turned on in the player. My guess is DTS is not working either, because DD would most likely also be working. Check DTS again, because if it is giving you DTS:NEO6, then DTS is not working either.

It sounds like you are playing a DD 5.1 track but the receiver is set to default to 7 channel (with Logic7 as the default matrix decoder). I haven't visited AVSForum in a long time but I recall a huge thread about this very issue (HK Gripes and Gremlins...or something like that).

It plays DTS just fine, as I stated earlier.

Also, like I said, it used to play DD and then one day it didnt. I tried 3 different dvd players using a combination of digital coax and fiber optic.

I have messed with the settings on both dvd player(s) and the receiver.

This is why I don't like HK.......... They are impossible to use!

Thanks for the input though. If worst comes to worst, I'll just play DTS movies in there...

What happens when you press the Dolby button on the remote?

It goes to the Logic 7 and Pro Logic modes...

Trust me, I've tried all the basic stuff...

I just think this receiver is a piece of crap and I'm not gonna worry about it...

Thanks for the input though!
