HK AVR 430 Romote Code?

I want to program a Cox Cable universal remote to be able to operate the AVR's on/off and volume controls. WAF goes through the roof with the ability to turn Oprah on with a single remote. The manual suggested 0081 and 0110 but that did not work. Using it's internal library of codes didn't work either. Any ideas? Or a remote code for a Motorola DCT6200 HD Cable Receiver might help.
Thanks.

If none of the codes in a pre-programmed remote work to control the AVR there is nothing you can do.

That is a bitter pill to swallow. I've doubted you before and came around after more learnin' but this time has to be different. When I tried to get the same remote to work with my LCD TV it wouldn't work untill I got the code on Google. HEY! I'll try that. But manually installing a code did work with the TV. Maybe I'm doing something else wrong. It's like the thing is asking me to pat my head twice and then rub my belly. Thanks for the input.

With a pre-programmed remote the 'code' you are entering is a setup code. That setup code just points to info in memory about the protocol to use and the numbers for each command to control a particular device. Even if one is listed for a particular device, there is no guarantee that it will work anyway (look at how many setup codes will be listed for Sony, eg.).

It is possible that the manual for the remote doesn't list all setup codes that are actually stored in the remote and that someone else just happened to discover one that worked and you found that info by googling but in general a pre-programmed remote is not upgradeable in any way.

Right again. The TV code was something that worked with a different brand. Is it that software engineering background? Either way, you hit the nail right on the head. Again. Very impressive and thank you.

You might try setup codes for Jerrold or Gem cable boxes to get the Motorola box to work. Motorola originally bought their cable boxes from those two companies although a lot has changed since then and the newer Motorola DCT box may not use the same codes for its functions.

You do realize that a good universal remote makes all these problems go away, right? :)

Point taken. I was just trying to make the things I have do all they can do. The remote that came with the HK has a little led screen and is programable or is a learning remote. Also it is backlit. Nice remote but the Cox Cable job has the nicely laid out DVR buttons that I'm familiar with. Remote configuration may well always be my stumbling block. I'm scared of it, okay? I feel better now that I've said it. No really, I'll give my HK remote a go before spending money.

Love that sense of adventure, but trust me you will eventually give up and be assimilated into the group that absolutely will not use any original equipment remote (other than to teach a real remote). :)

I know it's tough to spend $100 - $150 or more on a good universal remote but, once you do you'll wonder why you didn't years ago. They are pretty easy to program and really simplify things. I never had very good luck with the so called universal/programmable remotes that came with satellite receivers, tv's or ht receivers. None of them would control everything I had, but all of them would control some. I picked up a Harmony remote a few years ago and it has meet all my needs.

Now that cracked me up. Oddly enough I belive you. A friend was saying the same thing about remotes and I just thought he was nuts. My sense of adventure? Two years ago I didn't know composite from component. Now I'm in the universal remote market. That's like technological warp 9. Thanks.
