I have just put together a Home Theater in an addition to my home. I have tried to combine new with old components in the necessity of expense.
My components include:
Panasonic 50" Plasma Monitor
Samsung TS 160 HD Receiver
HK TU 930 Tuner
Yamaha DSP A1
Pioneer DVD 563
Velodyne HSG 18
Monitor Audio S10 mains, S1 rears, FXi sides, SLR center
CSI speaker selector fro 4 outside speakers near pool & two living room apeakers
Adcom GFA 555 amplifier to drive pool & living room speakers
I want to upgrade the A/V unit and DVD player as well as add an universal remote.
Regarding the A/V unit, this is my first priority, and I am about ready. I have been advised to purchase the HK 7200 as the base management is better than most. I have looked at the Denon 3803 and would like any comments, recommendations, orbetter yet other units to consider with my setup. I am also considering the Denon 5803, and is the cost worth this jump? The price does't limit the purchase, but puts off the purchase of the Denon DVD 5900 until January.
Right now I am also leaning to the Denon DVD 5900 to upgrade the Pioneer 563.
My room is 22x20 feet. I listen to music 40% and watch TV/DVD 60%.
Thanks for the anticipated replies.

Also I have a Sony 5520 turntable. An input for a magnetic cartridge on the A/V unit would be a plus.

I think the HK 7200 would be just fine. It does have excellent bass management and for that size room it should have no problems with power.

All the Denon recievers have perfect bass management, with the exception of the MC analog input. A few reviews I've read point this out (can't recall which mag, but in one test the Denon was the only unit tested that exhibited correct bass management in every case, with analog stereo inputs and digital inputs).

I think a lack of bass management on the MC inputs is actually a virtue, not a vice. If your player does b/m in the digital domain (like my Denon) adding this feature to the MC inputs would require either 1) redigitizing the signal, adding an extra A/D-D/A operation or 2) using an analog X-over, which may not be transparent & can induce phase shifts.

That said, go with whichever one you like the sound and feel of. I like the Denons, but you'll be the one using it...

i also like denon . the dvd-2900 dvd player is an awesome audo and video player. it is a true high end player at a good price. check it out at denon.com . the only thing it is missing is wma. they just came out with a five disc dvd-a with wma audio but i don't think it will play sacd. the denon 1804 is better than the 1803 it has on screen menu's with volume. composite to s-video convertion. bass management is done best in the dvd-a player.
