you remember in school when choosing a girlfriend or when choosing a wife later in life ...

do you choose the dumb ultra pretty/sexy prom queen, that you have nothing in common with?
-or-
do you choose the so-so looking girl, you've been friends with all your life, ultra compatible, etc.?

well, that's my situation with receivers.
harman kardon 435 (ultra pretty - but dumb compared to the yammy 2500)
yamaha rx-v 2500 (ultra compatible with me)

like in real life, I chose the rx-v2500. fine.

now, I find another girl, also dumb but ultra pretty ... i dont have to marry her, i just need to put her in a house, spend a token amount to keep her as a mistress ...

well that's my situation with this stereo receiver HK 3380 (80wpc x 2)

Can I use this as an amp for my front channels? 80wpc HK powering the tweeters/mids and the yammy 2500 powering the lows of my bi-ampable towers?

i made my repetetive questioning a slightly bit entertaining
i just want the blue jog dial of the HK (bragging rights of having an HK amp)
i might not even need a separate amp

.....Mike, if your two channel receiver has a tape monitor, this could work....come out of the pre-outs of the surround receiver and go in a tape monitor "in" of the 2 channel receiver.....then the left and right stereo signals could be amplified by the two amp sides of the 2 channel receiver via speaker wire to your fronts....all three up-front would stay with matching ohmage this way also......

im trying to d/l the manual from HK but it stops at 99% everytime.

stupid me, i thought it was as simple as connecting the LR preout of the yammy into the white and red rca jack at the back of the HK (whether it be CD, tape, vinyl, etc.)

i knew it was too good to be true

That will work too but you will then have to use the volume control of the h/k as well, although you could probably find a position about half way up that you could just set and forget. A tape monitor loop is not affected by the volume control so if you could do it that way the only thing controlling the volume would be the yammy.

i've finally downloaded the manual, there's this portion in it that mentions that the remote can control the volume even at monitor out.

hmmm. anybody heard of using an HK3380 as a receiver for PC use? :)

.....Mike, if you have an rca input on the back of the 2 channel receiver that says CD, or auxiliary, bring the signals from the pre-outs of the surround receiver in right there....you can't use vinyl, that's low impedence phono....the "in" of a tape monitor could get things complicated in the area of balance between the two receivers, and you'll quickly get good at matching levels between the two receivers....you're home.....
