Hitachi Plasma TV ?

I may have just added Hitachi to my selection of TV's (LCD or PLASMA). They
have a director's series that is very interesting as far as features go. The model I am looking at is the 55HDX61----it has a native resolution of 1366X768 display. This is the confusing part about this that I don't understand. It says it has a HD diplay of 768p and it also has a 1080p video processor.----What does this mean---will this TV be a good choice for the future HD-DVD players and or BLU-RAY ? Also what do people on here think about Hitachi as compared to my other 2 choices of Mitsubishi and Sony XBR.
Is their build quality as good? Specifically if anyone has this unit--let me know your thoughts.

I have heard good things about Hitachi as well as LG... But, I haven't a clue what the 1080p thing is. No, the TV does not accept 1080p input. I don't know why a TV that displays 1365x768 would convert everything to 1920x1080... Except, perhaps, it converts 1080i to 1080p, then down to 1365x768. That at least makes the tiniest bit of sense. But, it all becomes marketing hoopla. Maybe the conversion to 1080p before 768p makes 1080i images look better, maybe a direct conversion from 1080i to 768p would be better. It really depends on the processor doing the conversion.

I would love to know more about the 1080p justification and why manufacturers are suddenly jumping onto terms like 1080p when they still don't make products that accept 1080p as an input resolution and actual 1080p displays are few and far between... and even THOSE displays generally don't accept 1080p.

I have the hitachi 60V500 LCD projection.
I'm really happy with it. Has a great display and has been trouble free.
You just have to make sure you don't sit too close, looks like your looking through a screen door. "This years model" has more features, whether they are worth it or not would be a personal thing. If they have improved the display which is already great, IMO, the I would surely recommend a close look at this brand

I have a hitachi and like it

I have a 2 year old hitachi 42 inch plasma. As far as I am concerned its a great TV. I am told that alot of the plasmas on the market (including mine) use the same screen screen. some fukistu-hitachi joint venture that provides screens to a lot of other manufacturers including sony (most of the 42 inch 1024x1024 screens). It needed calibration right out of the box, but I am satisfied with the quality now and almost never make adjustments. Anyway, the bottom line is that Hitachi makes good plasmas.
