Not very audiophile but it works for me (and the fiance ;) ) Based upon the enjoyment we are getting from this setup, we are discussing adding an HT room to the house. In the meantime, this gives me some toys to play with.

The Velo sub is in the back corner of the room behind the large plant (best seen in the overhead shot). Not the best sub position, but with slab floors (and the fiance') the sub positioning is limited. With the DD-18 upgrade the sub performance is no longer a concern.

I have been out shopping for a new Samsung/Sony/Mits 60-70" DLP/LCD and I can honestly say the LG picture is every bit as good as any thing I have seen. This DLP along with the Denon DVD has made movie watching amazing with a near HD quality picture (720P). I do not see rainbows and since I upgraded the DVD to the 3910 have seen little or no macroblocking. I had 1910 and 2910 prior and both had macroblocking issues.

The thing that has really made all this worthwhile (from and time and expense standpoint) is the audio. I had a Bose LS 12 system that had sounded "fine" for the last 8 years. Then I heard/saw a friends new HT setup and it really opened my eyes (and ears). I was just lucky on the component choices and upgraded an insane amount during the implement phase of this, but it has been fun and challenging. I highly reccomend this "hobby" to others who have the inclination. Only wish I had found this site sooner as it would have saved some time.

LG RU44SZ61D DLP
Samsung 22" HD LCD
Motorola 6412 (Hidef DVR, Component to DLP) (2 ea)
Denon 3805 (being used as Pre)
Denon 3910 (DVI to DLP, DLINK to 3805)
Sunfire Cinema Grand 200 5.1 Power Amp Driving all speakers
Monitor Audio GR60 Fronts Silver Ctr, & S6 rear (Bi-wire cables from Heartland Cables)
Axiom EP-600 (sub cable is Monster 27")
Harmony 659 Univ Remote (highly recommend)
Monster Power Ctr and Sub power conditioners
RS SPL Meter

Just added the Sunfire today. My oh my, what a difference. I have been listening all afternoon and wow is all I can say. The GR60's really benifit from the additional power but the S6's and Center sound incredable thanks to DL3!

Added the EP-600 this week and that is another impressive subwoofer (that makes it 6 subs in 9 months). At 1/3, the price of the Velo DD-18 it is very close in both overall output and accuracy. I am still working through the setup but so far have been very impressed with this reasonably priced monster sub.

...I dont see an amp anywhere...

Unless you are reffering to his Denon 3805.

Nice setup! How many speakers? 5.1?

Yes 5.1, the amp is a consideration for the fronts but I'm going to try biamping the 3805 first and see how that works out. The biggest problem with this setup is the access to the equipment. It is a real hassle to change anything in a built in situation like mine. The shelf space is too narrow to just pivot the Receiver and DVD player so I have to slide them out and turn them. This requires a lot of extra wire/cable length and leads to a mess of wires/cables especially behind the 3805.

I guess "not very audiophile" means you didn't waste money on overpriced nonsense! But the speakers make the system (audio-wise) and you chose well. That's very "Audioholic".

And your wife likes the setup, too! Life is good!

Handsome cabinetry, too.

Those Monitor Audios sound fantastic. I have to agree that it's a very nice setup, and if the signifigant other is happy you can not loose. Just out of curiosity, how much did you have to get her to drink in order to start considering a home HT. I'm just asking because I might stop by the Liquor Store on the way home ;) . JK Congrats on a nice system.

Thanks, she is intoxicated by the sound, now the idea of a projector and big HD screen has her all worked up.

Thanks for the comments and the link to some very interesting articles. The speaker burn in myth was my favorite. My personal observations with my speakers aside, I took the break in requirement as fact due to most of the "knowledgeable" audio sellers (and people on this site) propagating this one. I just assumed it was happening and my unsophisticated ears were not picking this up (or maybe, I just didn't spend enough). The power of suggestion.

Thanks again, good stuff!
