Question..... Is this really important when choosing an HDMI cable or no? I see that Monster advertises high speed (Gbps) cables. This sounds like a load but I wanted to make sure from the experts.. Thanks in advance for your time..:D

Here's my understanding. If you're running long HDMI cables through your walls, then it seems to make sense to get cables that will be able to handle the bandwidth that is expected to be needed in the next few years (so, "high speed"). However, if you're running a relatively short cable (2-3m) between your components, then no, I wouldn't worry about it. The cheaper cables will probably work just as well.

There was a good link on a recent thread about how different cables stacked up against each other. Try searching for that. I thought that it was really quite informative.

EDIT: Found that thread. Check out this post: http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/showpost.php?p=319108&postcount=8

My friend bought a couple of those hdmi 1.3 cables from monoprice. They have that fishnet wrap around them. They are by far the thickest hdmi cables I have ever seen. Made the monster M series hdmi cables look like crap. Plus they were $15 for 6' (compared to over $100 for his monster).

My understanding is that if you have a short run of cable [3ft or 6ft] then the speed ratings don't matter a lot because most cables can handle the data transfer without problem.

However if you have a long run of cable [30ft or longer] you need to start paying attention to what you're doing ....

As far as the Monster Cable goes it is of decent quality but, as usual, it is likely quite overpriced.

From my understanding either HDMI cables work or they dont,no inbetween.

Either way im getting ready to find out for myself,i was forced to get bent over at Best Buy & buy an $80 cable until the $15 cable i ordered arrives.

It is yet another marketing tool from Monster. An HDMI cable needs to handel the data rate of the signal you need to transmit and over the distance you want that to take place.
A gHz rating?Hell, they send the cable TV and Sat TV over RG-6 type cables, a whole bunch of channels, say 150 or more, at that and this cable is speced out to 3gHz.
I think Monster is combining all the individual cables pair job needs into one number to sell that cable, apple and orange.

Monster Cable

In my experience Monster Cable does have nicer products but albiet at an extreme price. I usually find acceptable quality stuff like this off the web, at a site like NewEgg
