Are there any DVD players out other than the Integra 10.1 with DVI or HDMI out and a S-Video In that up scale for a resonable price?

Im looking for a way to use my DVI in on my HDTV from my reciver and have a good DVD player on top of that so i can watch HD DVD and upscale the rest running off my reciver

Thanks
Willie

Nothing for a reasonable price. If you want to upconvert, get something like the DVDO I-Scan Pro HD which is an aftermarket scaler that can do what you are looking for.

Either way, you won't be watching HD-DVD. DVD's aren't HD, period. You can process them and convert them, but there is only so much information in the original video and you will barely make it better by processing it. Especially out of a halfway decent progressive scan dvd player.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Disc formats which are the two new HD disc standards that we should see towards the end of this year are truly HD sources that can output 720p and 1080i at least as well as (eventually) 1080p.

Will the new HD DVD's provide the higher resolutions over component video? I just bought a LG DVD that up converts to 1080i. What a joke. Turns out if it is copywrited material, which includes every DVD that I have in my collection, it will default to 480p.

It will output 720p and 1080i very likely ONLY on the HDMI or DVI output from the player. This is very common with upconverting DVD players.

It is still a question whether the new HD discs will allow playback over component video, though my expectation is that at least a few will. Not positive though. The quality on those discs will be FAR superior than what is currently on DVDs though, so at the very least, expect a stunning image.

Is HD DVD coming anytime soon? I was under the impression that it was a long way off?

There is a push for it to be out by the end of this year, but some delays look like they may be hitting as the two rival formats, HD-DVD & Blu-Ray Disc try to end the battle before it begins. It may delay the release, but then there won't be a format war, just one unified HD disc standard. I would expect something within 12 months and within 2 years I would expect prices to make it so that most people are looking to buy HD disc instead of DVD, especially since they will play all DVD formats as well as the newer, better discs.
